| Kona King Coffee produces high altitude, estate grown 100% Kona Coffee from our two farms located in the Kona Coffee Belt. Both the Captain Cook and Honaunau farms benefit from a high altitude and rich, deep volcanic soil. The high altitude ensures that our coffee benefits from ample afternoon rainfall which produces a large, healthy bean. The deep volcanic soil provides ample nutrients which in turn produces a rich, flavorful tasting coffee. Because each farm benefits from unique soil and growing conditions which in turn produce a unique tasting coffee, we now offer coffee that is grown exclusively from each location. We differentiate these specialty coffees by the names "Captain Cook Estate" and "Honaunau Estate". The Captain Cook Estate is located at 1850-1950 feet above sea level and produces large coffee beans whose flavor is deep, rich and smooth with a hint of sweetness and chocolate undertones. This farm has been in cultivation for around 500 years, first by the ancient Hawaiians who created the mountain to sea (mauka to makai) stone mounds that separated crops, then by Japanese farmers who were among the first to plant coffee in the Kona region. The Captain Cook farm has been producing coffee for over a hundred years and all historical features have been kept intact. The Honaunau Estate is approximately six miles south of our Captain Cook Estate farm and is located at 1600-1750 feet above sea level. The coffee from this farm has a classic Kona coffee taste which is flavorful, smooth, and non-acidic. Coffee has been produced on this farm for over eighty years. We offer three grades of coffee from each farm; Estate, Extra Fancy, and Peaberry. Our 100% Kona Estate Coffee contains fancy, number 1, select, and prime beans. Our 100% Kona Extra Fancy Coffee is the largest of the coffee beans with a rich, well-rounded flavor. Our 100% Kona Peaberry Coffee is the smallest of the beans, where only one coffee bean is formed in a coffee cherry (where usually two are produced) and produces intensely flavorful coffee. At Kona King Coffee no pesticides are used in our coffee fields and we practice soil conservation techniques. We are active members of the Kona Coffee Farmers Association.
